Hi all, Did some coin roll hunting tonight and this stood out amongst other 1988-D's that I came across, looks a bit like the 1989 initials.

What do y'all think?

I tried taking good pics of the initials with different lighting to see the arm of the G going inward, as well as the thickness of the base which is absent from the other 1988-D's that I came across.

Just extreme Die Deterioration, as stated above this is RDV-005.

Interesting. Thanks for commenting y'all!

@John1 Thanks for the tip, I did a search and found coop's post comparing the RDV-005 and RDV-006.

I thought the "crossbar of the G" or the "hook of the G" was not present on the RDV-005 and the normal 1988-D's 'G' was just straight?

The "hook and crossbar"/"flare" of the G and the thickness of the base are present on my 1988-D are they not? Although, there is some deterioration and extra thickness going on that may be overlapping the bottom/sticking out part of the right part of the 'G.'

I could be seeing something that may not be there, but I clearly see a hook and crossbar on the 'G', especially on the last pic, and little notches going inward on the 'G' on the previous two pics.

Any else want to chime in?

The used examples of 'FG' with the extreme die wear are RDV-005. The REV-006 were used, show fresh initials on the 1988 Cents. This year variety was used early because the RDV-005 dies were wearing out. So the dipped in early for this one and made a year variety of the different new design reverse die. There are other differences as well. On the AME on America, you can see one it round and one is flat on the design of those devices.

The RDV-006 devices are wider.

Hey coop, thanks for commenting.

Here is a pic of the AM in America:

Edit* After wiping the coin and looking at it a second time under the microscope, I don't see the hook or the crossbar, it must have been extra material or lint or something it just looks straight now. This is an RDV-005. Thanks for commenting folks.
