Hi,

I randomly found this penny on the stairs inside my home today. I had just vacuumed yesterday so I'm not sure where it came from and no one else has been in my home. It looks very rough. I know some 1974 pennies are rare. While researching, I came across this forum and wanted to see if this is anything special.

Your coin--given the pics posted--appears to be a badly damaged/corroded 1974 D cent. Worth one cent.

to CCF. Where did you read that some 1974 cents are rare?
Your coin is suffering from environmental damage and is worth 1¢. Hope you stick around and enjoy the hobby.

You are probably thinking of the aluminium pattern cents produced that year but not officially released. If somehow you did find one of these, it would weigh much less than a normal cent and would be white/silver in color.
