I just found this little gem. Please don't insult my intelligence by saying it's "Environmentally Damaged". If there are any other thoughts I'd love to hear them. Not 100% sure on the early date. I will be taking this to a local expert in the afternoon. Thank you for any insight.

Going by the pictures provided I see a badly damaged coin, nothing more notable.

I will try to take better photos. I've put my time in, I'm not getting my information from unreliable online media sources. I research everything I post. I can't blame you for the pictures not being great. I will add some close-ups & side-by-side photos. Please keep an open mind. Things like this do happen. Although it is highly unusual, I want to share the find and ask for any advice on how to better achieve that. I agree it is corroded but that comes with a 140 year old coin.
Photos to come ......

Well, I do see a copious amount of post-strike damage. Please let us know what you uncover with the local expert. And consider sending the coin to a reputable third party grading service. Thanks.

Forgot to add, I see you're in Northern Utah. There are several experts in the greater Salt Lake area. The folks who put on the local coin shows are a good bunch to start with.

Here are a few side by side pics that are oriented in roughly the same direction. I believe the 1980/? Should be rotated CW a few degree's. I'm going to see if I can get some detailed photos later today by someone who knows how to do it well. Until then.. My

I can't find even the faintest evidence of an Indian cent here. Good luck, Ozzy.

Ask the question: Why would dies be kept in the mint this long? They wouldn't be, so it is no what someone imagines a he/she sees.

Ok I won't insult your intelligence and call it what it is. Things like this do not happen. If a mint worker were to throw an Indian cent into the mix, because that would be the only way this could happen, why would he not take it out of the mint to sell? There is no way this coin circulated for 40 years and not 140 and no one find it.

A bizarre thread for sure. Wonder if the OP will report back on his findings.

An "assisted error" is the only way this could happen, but I am not seeing anything to indicate an Indian cent here.

After becoming a member here over ten years ago and seeing the same EXPERTS here give sound advice over and over again I would be well within my intelligence to say that you haven't put your time in and should take advice from very reputable numismatists here.
