Missing so much detail in the reverse in Epluibus unum, shield, and claw. Large depression on the obverse temple of Kennedy. I can only assume the reverse die was polished to oblivion.

Has anyone seen this on Kennedys?

I'm going to say that the portrait of Kennedy takes so much to fill, that if the planchet was a little underweight that's where it came from. Like the area " states of" on a Memorial cent.

Maybe a large grease spot in the front. Hard to tell from the photos but the smith spot on the epluribus is raised to the height of the other letters. It's not depressed. Almost like a large Cud, although I don't think that is possible.

I have a Washington with a similar grease on the obverse. Also the F in FG is gone. I bet that's why you were thinking over polished.

Looks like a Feeder Finger die damage that altered the die, was polished to continue to use this die. Some Grease Fill issues during the strike. None are a premium for this coin.
