Die chips are not errors, those are just events happening due to the deterioration of the Die and do not brink high premium. To attract customers on ebay we see all kind of super errors names.

I see what you are talking about. A die chip near the nose. The mouth is a common area affected on these 2022 quarters. Many think it is about if there would be a premium on the coin. Some here are also about learning the errors, varieties as well as collecting. A die chip is considered a die flaw. It was not intended to be struck onto the coin by the mint, within the original design, thus they are considered errors. True though there isn't much of a premium if that was your focus. Coindom76

Well its just crazy how they are selling on ebay. Some are labeling it "Drooling Lip" or Die Chip Lip". What's even more perplexing is while most are listed as BIN for around $10 however one auction style sold for $145 five days ago. I will likely let the somke settle on this coin.

I have a friend that sold two of these for $25 a piece on ebay. Also they just sold a "burning building" strike through Washington for $80. It's kinda crazy what people pay for minor Washington errors on new runs.

Copy that Willburton, I don't think the interest in ole' Lip Chip will increase judging by the number of listings on ebay. Nonetheless the more pronounced examples might be worth holding.

In a few months, they will regret buying them for an inflated price. (Remember the States quarters fever? Now you hear only silence and find the plated junk in circulation)

Okay thanks to everyone in this tread it was informative. Big take away(s) to me; Die chips are not errors and demand less premium. In most cases its wise to hesitate on buying discovered unverified varieties on newly minted coins. Often these discoveries are sort lived and values will inevitably decline.

Die chips are not a die variety. They are a die event. The die started off normal, they developed while the die was being used.
