I suppose there might be a legitimate reason people might want these, but I can't imagine what that reason might be. But I can see people that want to make their counterfeit Chinese coins look legit want the boxes. Any other reason people would want the boxes that the coins made by the mint come in?

So many reasons, you purchased an MS 69 Peace/Morgan and since there is no premium for 69 graded coins you pop it out. You have 1921 Peace/Morgan you want to put in a OGP case. Your case got damaged. For a gift I purchased the OGP and put a bullion ASE in the case. Looks nicer than in a flip.

I would purchase if I bought a graded coin and had no OGP. Can't think of any other reason.

Yes there is. In my case, I received a damaged 1995 ASE Box and so ordered a replacement which is of superior quality. The coin is flawless, and I value packaging with the coin, so this is a valuable offering. I did the same with the 2016 ASE set, and the new packaging is superior to the old.

Here's a post about how I re-used 2013 West Point ASE Set Packaging to use for 2016 coins. It's not a re-use of the Morgan-Peace OGP, but it's an example of something related. I prefer my commemoratives to be in the original packaging as issued. There are a few that I'd like graded for a variety of reasons, and these I'd buy the packaging for. The way I see it is simple. Try finding any early commemorative in it's original packaging. If you do, you'll pay the hefty premium to acquire one. With more and more modern commemoratives being removed for grading or albums and the packaging lost, at some point in time the as issued premiums will jump. No where near the early issues, but far enough above to justify having as issued.

Similarly to commems, I purchased a 2011 25th ASE anniversary 5-coin box to display my 2021 Morgans, so yes, there are people who do want some of the OGP for various reasons. Quote: I prefer my commemoratives to be in the original packaging as issued. Me too. Or at least, I did when the packaging was higher quality than the flocked-tray nonsense we're getting these days.

I bought about 10 OGP velvet clamshell boxes I keep in storage - I'm slowly using them up on the new releases of the ASE's. In 2021 the Mint went to inferior display boxes and I'm putting my ASE coins in my stored Clamshell boxes..
