I've seen similar examples for around $1100 to $1300 or more.So far it's the most I've paid for a single Morgan silver dollar.

We can't tell you if you overpaid unless we know how much you paid.

I'd say AU-50, seem like a fair price.

There is a large jump in price for the date from XF45 to AU50. The coin sneaks in at AU50, but a XF45 would not surprise me. My concern is the field from date to letters as it shows a possible cleaning.

It would be really cool to have the whole series in MS-63 or MS-64 but that just isn't possible for most people. Thanks for your help coinfrog.

Agree that it does look possibly cleaned, and that an EF grade would halve the value.

It's 1895-O VAM 2. That's the normal date position with the mm slightly tilted to the right. It isn't listed as markers for this variety, but every one I've seen has the die crack inside the loop of the ribbon and the die crack from the leaf to the "O" of ONE. Your coin has these markers. Old cleaning, market acceptable. I think it's a hair under AU-50. It's yet another of my hoped-for future EF-48 ("AU Slider") coins. At $1000, you did well. It's a tough date in any grade, and this looks like a nice example.

Hard to say for sure with the glare, but XF-45 to AU-50 was my range. I am leaning toward AU-50 cleaned. Very nice coin

What bothers me is you purchased a raw coin. If it were me, for what you paid ($1000) I'd want it slabbed by PCGS or NGC. Unless you are capable of accurately determining: -- authenticity -- originality -- grade

Kanga makes a valid point. You should consider sending in the coin for grading before you get buried in raw examples that do not make the grade.
