I'm kind off confused was watching a coin dealer on YouTube and ask them about some coins that I'm putting a set together for and low and behold they mentioned somebody asked about specific coins and that's me and they said, they didn't know why he didn't buy any said it takes a lot off time to look for specific coins, said he must not have liked there prices and would appreciate if anybody asks about coins they would appreciate them buying something, I have not run into this before I buy a lot from different dealers and they never have said anything if I didn't buy something I was looking for. Am I doing something wrong I have a budget and can't afford to buy stuff all the time, I like to get prices and go from there. Please let me know. I'm not mad with anybody just really confused. You probably should be investing in a Red Book or a Blue Book so you can get an idea of how much dealers will charge.

I know coin prices and I know to look more than 1 place but it's that he is a very reputable guy in the coin business and I wanted to give him some business at some point, but I don't understand why somebody has to call somebody out.

If you are window shopping a dealers current inventory there is nothing wrong with that. If you are asking a dealer to search for specific coins for you, then I can see the dealers point. His time has a value too. I think it is important to establish a good relationship with a dealer you trust and perhaps they can offer some wiggle room on certain coins.

I see what you're saying but I have asked other dealers the same way as I asked him and and nobody has got mad or even called me out on it, he also should have the coins carded and in a tray to easily look for them. I think the last thing somebody should be doing is calling somebody out on a video that's something I think they should keep to there self, if I was in his shoes I would not do that, if that person contacted me and didn't buy anything, I would politely tell him that I'm to busy and you could come into my shop and look and see if it's anything you like. Also he was firm on the prices no wiggle room, but that's not the issue his prices were ok.

I also told him, Thanks I would think about them, after he told me the prices and I was serious in eventually getting something. If he would have explained in the email that he is pretty busy and he doesn't have a lot off time to look for something if your not going to buy it at that moment, that's fine, I just don't understand why somebody has to say something in a video about somebody, he should have told it directly to me. Like I said I'm not mad just confused and kind of frustrated.

I have about 3 dealers I go to on a regular basis, 1 is internet the other 2 are local. I have a few others that I'm comfortable buying, but I have 2 that I won't deal with. One the store must be a front for some illegal business, his prices are 3x what greysheet has, I've tried a few times, the prices are what they are. I won't go to that store again. I have another dealer nearby that has every note I want and I won't go to him either. It was painful going there, everything was in the back, he would only bring out 1 item at a time, I asked to see more and he would say I wouldn't like the prices... So I stopped going there also.
My number 1 dealer is local. He holds items for me, I get good prices. I don't harass the staff, I spent easily mid 4 figures in items the guy sells. Its a 2 way street, you treat me right I buy from you.
Look at your dealings the same way. If your business isn't valued go someplace else.

I'll give a example I have a online dealer I buy stuff as well and I at least ask once or twice per week what kind of new stuff is coming in and they don't mind at all, even if I don't buy anything, they know I'm a good customer and they are happy to answer any of my questions.

Matthew , How many times did you and the dealer go back and forth on e-mail ? I'm thinking it might have been many times .If so , then I can see his patience running thin especially when you didn't buy a darn thing from him . It's like the annoyance a car salesman would get if you spent 2 hours asking questions about a certain car that your interested in and then say ok, I'll think about it and walk out of the showroom . I think you are taking your rant with that coin dealer a little to far . IMHO ,try not to e-mail dealers more then twice . Like Mister T said : a dealers time is valuable too . Maybe he was having a bad day at that time .

I didn't message him no more than 2 times I didn't understand why he said what he said, because before that I was going to buy some Mercury dimes he didn't have any so I was going to give him a second chance to see if he had any of these and he did but I didn't have the money right at the time but was going to buy some eventually though. Did you read my message I said I wasn't mad just confused and frustrated. I'm not going to name no names.

Also I didn't get in contact with him after I heard what he said I wanted to leave that alone, and not start something with him.

The dealer might have took note after you asked about it, and he add it into his inventory list thinking you were going to buy?

just my Two Cents, but from what I understand from reading this you were wondering if they had a couple coins to fill your album. They went and picked out the needed coins for your collection, perhaps they looked through their junk silver box for a couple of minutes or more. Then proceeded to put them aside in hopes of a sale & when they realized you werent ready to pay they got frustrated. Thus they took to youtube to vent, perhaps not even specifically about you as if they have been in business for long enough it happens quite a bit. Perhaps its as T-Bop suggested and they were having a bad day. But In my opinion, if you ask someone to do something such as creating a custom lot. You should have the money or be prepared to purchase it. This is because they can't necessarily Hold things like other places due to the fluctuating prices of precious metals. Perhaps I'm just misinterpreting this. Edit - I think I understand what your saying after reading it again. You were curious as to what they had & didnt specifically ask for a custom lot as you didnt have the money prepared. Thus it may be the dealers fault for wasting his own time.
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

I see what you mean but I didn't tell him in stone that I was going to buy anything I just wanted to see if he had any of the ones I was looking for, I talk to different dealers about coins I need and nobody has got mad or called me out or anything like that, I wouldn't have posted anything if he explained in the email that he's busy and doesn't have time to look if your not going to buy anything at the moment, I don't think it's necessary to go on YouTube and spread information about different dealings he won't get any business from me.
Edit: I didn't tell him like you said about what a specific lot I just sent him a list of what left I needed and on that list is 3 really valuable ones that I really couldn't afford I just sent the list over just to see what he had and what were the prices, nothing was set in stone nor did I send him a email telling him I wanted to definitely buy them or anything like that.
