The odd, arcuate surface staining is from another coin resting on this one while they were both immersed in a liquid. It could have been a water fountain, cup holder, or the like. Or are you talking about something else?

Just some sort of staining.
It didn't look like that when it was struck.

Looks like a cup holder staining from other coins with beverages altering the color.

Before trying to find errors on coins, its best to now what to look for so common things like the staining on this coin do not trick you.
Go to varietyvista.com and see pictures of what is collectable and what to look for. Also go to error-ref.com and start spending time reading through the listings there so you know what you are looking for before trying to find it
