Just got this as a cherrypick (my first!) a short time ago and knew it had a different reverse than I was used to seeing, and confirmed the proof reverse variety when I got home. My personal grade is at MS-64 plus/minus a little.

I have now learned that the type B proof reverses are fairly uncommon to downright rare, and this 1963 seems to be tending to the rarer side. I now know they started with the type B in 1956 and went to 1964 only in Philadelphia with a few Denver's mixed in from 1964. This quarter will now help me find other proof reverses in the future.

This has the three main characteristics of a type B reverse:
1.) Seperation of the ES in states,
2.) The leaf at the arrow tips is higher than them, and
3.) The leaf and the A in dollar are connected.

Yes it is. Is third on the list of the scarcer Type B after 1956 and 1964. In fact we say to 1963 uncommon.

Nice pick and pics. You're correct. Congrats

I hadn't spent much time on the more modern silver coin but read about these about a month ago. Started picking up the short series in the highest grade. Got 4 more to go.

Read up on the 64 D also.

Nice looking coin. As far as the rarity, I've seen a lot of them in the past. I know the 62 FS-901 in ms66 is worth a nice premium.

Question: What year did the proof reverse, show a type 'A' reverse design, that was normal?
1936. That was the first proof coins since the matte proofs from years before.
Highlight the area above that is blank to see the answer.

1956 till 1964 the Proof dies was reuse for the business strike. The most rare are the 1956 very scarce and the 1964 which use the dies from 1963.

COOP you has the answer to your POOL.
