Seller is asking roughly AU55 money. I'm terrible with the mid-AU grades. I would put the obverse as better than XF45 but not AU58. The reverse shield seems XF45-AU50 to me but the eagle's head & neck mid-AU. Other than a light scratch through the neck skipped to the ribbon there aren't a lot of marks and I don't see any hairlines. What say the grading opinionators?

I'll say AU-50, perhaps 53. Black mark on headband kills it for me.

Black spot hurts the eye appeal, may be able to be lightened with some xylene. Central devices are weaker on the reverse. I'm at AU50, could be AU53, but I sure wouldn't pay mid AU money for it.

I'm with Mr. Frog.

I wouldn't even be considering this one.

I don't like the reverse on this. Probably net grades AU50 but not guaranteed.

obv looks AU50 maybe 53. with the reverse at about XF45 i'll say AU50 net. some of that reverse is probably strike issues. I dont like the dark spot but I dont think it would stop it from a straight grade

Thanks for the feedback. As with everything, especially those saying "pass", it's all relative. Relative grade, price, patience level, desire, eye appeal, etc. I'm looking for a specific hub type and have been since September, diligently watching Heritage, GC and ebay, as well as occasionally browsing DL and L&C. 1900 has been few and far between, let alone the variety I'm looking for. This is only the second one in 10 months. I get the feeling collectors clutch their 1900s perhaps more than other years, for the turn-of-the-century cachet, as well as other 1900 hub type collectors (there's quite a number of combinations to collect). There's an MS64 OGH on Stacks coming up but I have a feeling it will sell way beyond my budget. I'll continue to mull this one over.

I purchased it. In hand I agree that it's probably AU50 and the reverse holds it back. My coin purchases are disposable income so yes I overpaid, but to me it's like taking the family to dinner and getting dessert. The seller jacked with the images and it actually has a golden tone.

It's always fun to find a bonus feature, and this coin has an obverse die clash in the jawline and below the ear, from the eagle's head. Tough to photograph. On the reverse is a bit of clash with the chin and nose, between the banner and right wing, and between right wing and arrows.

The coin looks better in your new photos. Most of us over pay at times, but down the road it usually doesn't matter. Enjoy it, it's not a bad looking coin.

A decent looking example. But it would be improbable for clash marks to appear on the central devices, since the reverse die wouldn't hit the recessed areas. Maybe a planchet flaw?

That's the "conventional wisdom", but not necessarily true. My image is poor and rotated for lighting, but you can also see it in the full obverse image. The stronger portion below the jawline matches exactly with the back of the eagle's head curving into the banner, as seen in the overlay. Same with the line from the front of the eagle's neck going down from the earlobe.

Here's an 1892 10c with a clash of the O in ONE below-left of the ear, as well as other clashes of the wreath through the ribbon. If you look at a Barber dime overlay, the O exactly lines up as well. I've seen other examples of the O clash.
