Have been looking for a 1916-D dime for a while but the price of these babies skyrocketed up, so no luck so far. As I was searching, I ran into this baby and loved the unique combination of what this is. Surely, not everyone will love it but it seems like an interesting "Guess the Grade" challenge. The coin is easy to find on the interweb so if you've seen the coin before, let the rest of us have some fun trying to come up with our own grades for this coin. Thoughts? Thanks!

Well I can see why your calling this an interesting Merc . Besides rims grinded down ( at least that's what it looks like ) ,this high grade circ is displaying FSB which is a rarity for a 45-P merc .

Im going to say broad struck, maybe out of collar. Looks to be Mint State. I'm going to go MS64+FSB. This is a pretty big coin! As stated above. Not an easy date with FSB. Another marvelous pickup!

Looks like it could be struck out of collar as @redraider stated. Or, perhaps on the wrong planchet.

The reverse is complete, so I'll tag along with @RedRaider and @Bump111: it looks like either out of collar or a wrong planchet. The sharp strike also suggests a wrong planchet. The obverse is incomplete, so I wonder if it may also be slightly MAD. Rough day on the mint production floor?

No clue on the grade here, but the FSB jumps out.

Really looking forward to the reveal here. Cool coin!

A large Broadstruck that's out of collar, even though its appeared FB, but for some reason a lot of 3rd party don't label it.

It is a beauty!

A very interesting and eye-catching example! I'm going to pass on a grading guess on this one, but will be interested to see what it turns out to be...

I'm thinking struck on a nickel planchet (which was also silver in 1945). Would they also designate broadstrike or MAD on something like that? Are we seeing copper from the alloy or is it just toning? Interesting coin.

Edit: I cheated and found a similar coin, so I have a question after the reveal. Don't peek. https://coins.ha.com/itm/errors/194...bnail-071515

Not sure what the error is, but the rest of the coin looks MS-65FSB. Interesting coin!

A unique example and undoubtedly exceptionally scarce.

Very very nearly FSB (center band has just a touch of weakness) and they'd probably give it FSB.

My opinion is struck on an incorrect planchet

Strike Doubling on UNITED perhaps due to metal displacement horizontally opposite.

64. PCGS would FB this, NGC would be a close call.

I told you not to peak, so that's on you. I did that just to bookmark it for myself, because I'll never remember what my question was otherwise.
