to the CCF A 1964 half dollar is 90% silver so it will tone differently than a modern nickel clad half. |

to the CCF! I would be so excited to search the coins you have! PLEASE let us know if you find something special, or if you have any other questions! I don't think this coin is an SMS variety. The small mark off the end of the 4 looks more like damage to me. This image shows what to look for on the 1964 SMS Kennedy half. It's a raised area. to the Community! Organize you coins and store them in a safe and secure manner. Write down the history and story behind the coins your grandfather told you. They are part of your family's history that you should pass on to your children and grand children when the time is right. Once the coins are sold they will be gone forever —— and "forever" is a very long time! Edited by westernsky

To CCF , As said that Half Dollar looks like a common circulated coin which we call business strikes . I see nothing unique about it .  |

 , maybe a little post mint damage, but otherwise a fairly normal looking half. Cherish these coins as they belonged to your Grandfather and don't be too eager to part with them.  to the CCF! We look forward to see what else you have to share with us! |

Welcome here. What you show it is an reject planchet coin from the mint. I see some accumulation from the mint employees, and some coins was the best of the best. Hope you have one of those.

 I just wanted to clarify that I have no interest in selling any coins or their melt value at any price. I am only trying to make sense of my grandfathers collection in my spare time. I was 5 when my grandfather last showed them to me and I can't recall the entire history. We use to go through rolls of coins together for my childhood Lincoln Cent collection and he would tell me about the mint in Denver and the bank he worked at as a kid. This is one of the only coins that I don't understand why he thought it would be the most valuable someday and why he stored this set away from the bags of silver Ike's and Morgan dollars. I can see why some have said business strike because of the way the pictures came out but it is not for sure. I will try to get better pictures. |
