I went back through earlier topics and can't find anything related to diagnostics comparing 1923 and 1928 Peace dollars. I have one that is extremely worn and would like to find a way of being sure of which one it is. I will post photos when I can, but in the meantime, are there any sure-fire diagnostics? I'm wondering if I have a PO01 1928, a PO01 1923 or something that doesn't have enough meat left for a grade. "Nummi rari mira sunt, si sumptus ferre potes." - Christophorus filius Scotiae

Quote: are there any sure-fire diagnostics? surefire diads on a damaged or very worn coin - I'm not too sure there is any. Unless the design is very different from one year to another. (like a moved banner, or different number of stars, etc)

I've been trying to get a house sold for the past couple of months - my camera hasn't been set up for some time. I keep promising pictures of several items and intend to do that. I can take pics with the phone, but I doubt those would do a lot of good. Let's see what I can get done over the next few days - stay tuned! I appreciate the help from the forum members as always.

Cheap and easy. Ring light OPTIONAL - any good light source can do a decent job. The following is the (cropped) picture you see being taken in the above picture of the setup. Ignore any small detail in the first picture (like the bottle cap) to NOT get the results you want

Thanks for the setup, @Earle. For the record, you have my favorite fiction writer holding up your phone...

I'm with the 3 group. That thickness on the left side of the upper loop looks like the upper end of the 3.

I appreciate all the comments, folks!
So, is there enough remaining of the devices to warrant the 01? Even a 1923 is worth a few bucks at that grade.
A representative from ANACS will be at our show this weekend. I'd like to drop it off with him if you all think it can make grade.
