A die chip on the date. Is that a double die or Mechanical Doubling on the date?

A die chip and MD. Not a doubled die.

Correct. After the strike the looseness of the machine damaged the fresh devices it just struck. This is typical Machine Doubling.

A doubled die can have Machine Doubling, (because the die is what is doubled from hub doubling) but Machine Doubling never makes a doubled die. Machine Doubling only damages the pre-struck devices on the coin. (Normal dies or doubled dies)

That is an above-average example of MD. The doubling is step-like and reduces the width of the letters.

Agree with the above, plus the possible die chip on the left wheat stalk.
