So I was going through my change and I found this coin. It looks smashed a bit and I can see both Lincoln and the building on the front. I can't tell anything on the back though. I think it's just a smashed penny but any ideas?

. PMD. Can't be a lot of heat or it would have melted into nothing.

Heat could have been applied for a few seconds or so. Definitely post-strike damage--very likely intentional. Kinda cool.

I think heat - enough to soften it up - here is my thought:
A cent was placed in a small crucible Reverse up, another cent was placed I same crucible, coins were heated enough to let them sag to the bottom (that explains the curvature and stretching at the edges) then the 2 coins were pulled apart. You can see the reversed lettering left on the 'obverse'

Defacing coins is I believe against the law. Someone created this monster to deceive, and has made just a mess of it. Worthless at this point, not even a cent.
