I was looking at this Peace dollar and I see a "N" in the E of America I can't find anything about this online. Also there is crack. Opinions on possible doubling.

@ae, there are some odd aspects to this coin so thx for posting. First, I'm quite sure that there is an arc-shaped scratch rather than a die crack on the obv. Similarly, the upper space in the letter E of LIBERTY looks damaged to me. I say these things because in both cases it looks like these features are indented and if they were truly die issues, it is almost certain that they would be raised. I suppose what I'm calling a scratch could instead be a struck through wire, but it doesn't look like it to me.

judging by the lighting, the line through the Y in liberty looks like a scratch to me, but then the lighting is not ideal to see from what direction it is coming in from. the 'thing' in the N is something, but need better pictures to tell what it is.

i agree with scratch. I also agree with better pics needed.
Ring light optional, use any decent source.

Looks to me like a raised die crack on the obverse extending into the hair. Not sure what's going on in the E of AMERICA--possibly damage or a die chip?

I have been looking at different lights and a microscopes, I saw this clip on phone Microscope just unsure if it would work with my phone case. Saw some nice wireless ones on Amazon too. This old giant magnifying glass just doesn't cut it lol. Thanks for the tips everyone. I got most of these coins over a year ago and never really looked at them much.

The crack on the right obverse is a die crack, no question about it. There are literally dozens of Peace dollar VAMs with die cracks that go through the "Y" in Liberty.

It MAY be a VAM 1D2 -- the arc and extent of the crack in the photo of the example coin on the VAM World page is almost identical, except that it goes through the "Y" is a bit higher on the stem. I also can't tell if there's a corresponding gouge on the coin at the rim edge below the "Y."

Not sure what's up with the "N" in the "E" -- that's a new one for me. My first thought was that the coin is counterfeit and the "N" is some kind of sloppy counterstamp, but I don't think that's it.
