I just recently completed my small size National Bank Note type set and thought I'd share.

These aren't high grade notes, but I'll probably add some other interesting banks/towns to the set which will give me ample opportunity to get some higher-grade examples .

As mentioned in other topics, my currency type sets are defined by the Friedberg design numbers, but I add additional examples for a design if I feel there is enough difference to warrant that. For the NBN's the design numbers are 204-208, one for each denomination.

However, the Type 1 and Type 2 notes have enough of a difference (two additional brown charter numbers on the Ty.2 notes) that I felt it necessary to include both types in my set.

$5 notes. The Ty.2 note has an EPQ Star qualifier, which I've not seen too often. It is really nice in hand, especially for a 55 grade.

$10 notes.

$20 notes. Both of these have fairly low serial numbers, but for NBN's that doesn't really bring any premium unless you have a Serial #1 note.

$50 notes. The Ty.2 $50 was my last addition to this set.

$100 notes. I really like both of these; the Ty.1 note is from a bit tougher bank, though it does exhibit some smudging on the right front of the note. And, I thought the bank name for the Ty.2 note was quite interesting...

Terrific set HF_82.
I often wonder if small-size Nationals would be even more popular if they had a alternative seal and serial number color, like red or blue. Maybe, maybe not. To most collectors it's the name and location that seal the deal.

Thanks, Coinfrog, ghonk and Steve.

@Steve, it is a bit unfortunate that there's not a whole lot (other than the bank names and minor design details) which distinguish these from the FRBN's, or from each other. And, there were so many issuing banks for the NBN's that I can understand that these may be under-appreciated, even for the many rarities.

You see I've kind of done a smattering of banks in various states. I know people focus sometimes on specific states or even banks, which I may do at some point. As mentioned, I'm also attracted to unusual bank or town names.

I briefly thought about getting a set of notes from my home state of Arkansas, but only one bank in the entire state issued small-size Ty. 2 $50 and $100 notes, and only one is known of each. Funny thing is, the bank which issued those was in the town I was born in...
