I realize this might be nothing but any ideas on what might cause the 7 to look like this? I tried using Acetone to clean it up a little first before taking pictures.

nothing unusual about the 7, other than it has taken a hit sometime post mint.

Yep, the 7 took a direct hit and pushing the metal down and to the left a bit. it is though, just damage after it left the mint.

Gumball machines alter the devices at that angle.
1967-P-Lincoln-Penny---Odd-Looking-7-In-The-Date
Note the affected area is not exactly parallel to the rim, but affected at the same angles on these examples and your coins example. Thus I feel it was altered in a Gumball Machine. (Also the time period is also correct for this to happen)
