@new, could it be damage? When an unusual feature is inset, virtually 100% of the time it is damage.

it is strange, and incuse? could be grease strike through, Maybe the shape is from the way the mint worker wiped the die off.

If your asking about the line that goes through trust it looks like a possible stain to me. If your asking about the rim specifically then that is damage.

Quote: Die dent of some sort? Hmmm, I don't know. The dirt is gathered along the cracked edge, it's indented. But as others have said, it's likely damage. But I don't know for sure. It's odd!

Possible damage to the outer edge of the coin, moved metal on that area. Just coin damage. No premium for coin damage. (If so, then we would have no change to use, as everyone would be damaging coins) Just a spender

There is a slight irregularity to the perimeter of the coin (last T of TRUST) at the incuse area, like it occurred when the proto-rim was being formed in the upsetting process.
I think this is some form of planchet flaw, possibly it was missing metal before being struck.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.

The proto rim doesn't control the rim. The die and the collar form the rim during the strike.
