What strategy do you use? I usually get about $40 to $100 in rolls from a small bank, turn them back in re-rolled to a larger bank in another town to help eliminate double searching. When in the larger town will get rolls from another bank and turn them in (rolls marked slightly) to another bank in the smaller town i.e., get pennies, dimes etc in small town, get halves in another; turn halves in where I got the pennies and dimes and turn the pennies and dimes in where I got the halves.
Also, I feel weird turning in rolls of one coin and asking for rolls of the same coin...does anyone do that?
and also again, how do you go about ordering a box of halves..does the bank give you any problems? especially if you order a box of halves and then bring them back, turn them in and order another box right away..do the banks begin to get upset with this or do you use some other strategy.
Just wondering if I am weird or what.

I get them from one bank and take them to another. I live in the Los Angeles area so there are many banks practically on every street corner.

i had a bank tic me off one time so I use them as my "dump bank". I get my rolls from everywhere else but always return them to my dump bank. I would not turn in rolls and ask for more at the same time. at least not from the same teller. I just go in and say, "i would like $500 in ......." If your looking for halves, alot of times they are in the vault and if you ask the teller if she has any she will just say no without even looking. SO, what I do is go to the lady at the center desk that greets you when you walk in and ask to speak to the head teller. They are the ones that can get into the vault and MOST of the time they are GLAD to give you their halves. hope this helped

I had one bank teller who always looked "excited" when I came in. That bank quickly became my dump bank. As far as ordering halves, I make a deal with the bank I order them from: I won't bring them back to you.

Around here the banks have a vault manager. That is who you need to sweet talk. She is the one that orders the coins. Also ask where they receive the coins. Here different banks get coins from two different cities. I try to get coins from a bank that receives them from one city and then take them bank to a bank that sends them off to the other branch of fed. Seems to work well. I would never take them back to the same bank. I know of no banks around here that even take back rolled coins. They want them dumped into a change counter in the lobby. I also look for banks with multiple branches in the same town. Most of the banks have a free checking account with no minimum balance. I will set up an account with about $100, then they have a hard time refusing service.

I search cents, nickels and halves. I live in a city large enough for me to be able to do a number of different things. More than half of the banks in the city will sell coin to non-account holders. I buy my cent and nickel boxes from banks that are serviced by Brinks (their rolls are shrink-wrapped). I return most of the checked coin to a bank that lets me use their coin counter for free. What I don't bring them I return rolled to one of the three banks that I have accounts. The great thing about the coin counter bank and the other bank that I return coin to is that they are serviced by a different armored company than Brinks. So, even when the stuff I bring in is returned to their "Fed", I won't see any of that coin again. Halves I call ahead to some of the approximately 450 banks that are within a 30 mile radius ahead of time to see if they have any. I have a bank that orders boxes for me if I want them, but my experience with boxes of halves of late has been pretty negative. Therefore, I have been concentrating on customer turn-ins. Once I've made enough calls to pick up about 50 rolls (or whatever I have to spend for that day) I will drive around to all of the banks to pick them up. I then return the halves the same way I return the cents and nickels.

Since I am on a small budget and live in a small town I usually hit all 4 banks in town once a week (I seem to be the only one roll searching here). I take all of my dumps/rerolls to the main branch of my bank in the city about 20 miles away and then hit 8-10 of the banks there...I haven't had any troubles so far. The tellers I deal with are more than happy to get rid of halves and I also bring a bag of Hershey's Kisses every now and then to them-this has paid off for me as they...1) don't see me as a nuisance and 2) they have begun to save halves for me... . As for calling, since I am in town 2-3 times a week anyway-I just stop in. All four banks are within 1/4 mile of each other.

I have found that if you ask the teller to accompany you on an excursion to the Coasta Del Sol in the south of Spain or maybe a short getaway to Bermuda that they seem more inclined afterwards to accommodate your requests. OH sorry about that I am awake now. But really, I have found that just making small talk with them when you are in the bank conducting normal transactions fosters a relationship that makes getting what you want a whole lot easier.

I too live in a 4 bank town and because it's small(?) and everyone knows everyone, tellers are very friendly when I get rolls. Heck I don't even roll them back up (too lazy). I just bring my plastic tub back in to be counted and get some more.

thanxz for the input....I have three bank accounts, my main checking account bank has 3 branches within a reasonabel distance, the other two are very large with many branches everywhere. I use one of the larger branch banks in Houston as the "dump" bank usually, but since I am 65 miles out that is not too often I have to rotate between about 8 banks within a 15 mile radius. My main bank has only 2000-d Kennedy halves, nothing else. When I was a kid I used a similar strategy to go from store to store changing pennies to quarters, quarters to nickels, nickels to dimes, etc. I would remove the keepers and replace with commmons. Used to a few Indians, Mercs, SLQ, Buffalo nickels, Walkers...all were plentiful. Once in 63 I went to a small bank on regular business and got a BU 1938-D Walker in change...I asked the teller if they had any more and they had just opened a an entire roll! I got them all for face and sold them for $5 each the next day to a coin shop in Houston. But then we could still get silver dollars for face at the bank also....oh for the good ole days!!

I usually keep seven figures on deposit with them (through my company), so they do whatever I ask. The other banks wine and dine me, so I get rolls from them as well.

This is MtnCoinMan in his bank: "Hi folks; back to look through all of your teller trays and drawers! I'll come around back there and look through each station; I won't get in the way. Could you all make sure you open up all of the electronic locks on those mini-vaults down by your feet so I can check through all of those rolls? I'll just sit on the floor at each station and look through the coins; nobody will even know I'm here. Thanks, you guys are always so accomodating! Oh, you say those ten boxes of half dollars came in? And the five boxes of Ike dollars? Yes, you did travel to the Fed personally to get into their storage vaults and make sure that they didn't send those pesky annoying gold colored dollars, right? Oh, thanks again!" Just kidding, of course! But it must be nice to have the banks eating out of your hands!

I usually keep six digits in the bank, but unfortunately two are on the wrong side of the decimal point. Poor people have poor ways.

Quote: 4 banks in one town = small?, zero banks in one town = small .....the town I'm referring to is less than 3000 people but it is also the hub for quite a few hamlets within a 15 mile radius...oh well, I thought it was small.
