This coin stood out because it appeared toned. The toning on the obverse goes from the normal red to darker red and than a very pale color..
When I took a closer look, I observed fine scratches.
The scratches seem to be in all directions.
The reverse has more scratches but they seem to be on the field of the coin.

I tried to take enough pictures to show the scratches, toning and the colors.
Is this post mint damage or is there another explanation?

The scratches are die scratches. The reverse is showing the start of DDD towards the rim direction on the tops of the reverse devices near the rim area. The obverse is not showing the heavy die scratches that the reverse has. So it was probably a rescued reverse die, married to a earlier die state obverse die. (Again the light differences may not be showing me the same die scratches on the obverse) The might be too reflective for this setup. If this is a LED with multiple lights, that may be the problem. But as far a s premium, I see nothing like a die variety on this coin. While nice in color and circulation, it is just a normal die coin.

Not uncommon--but not that uncommon. Nice find. Suggest holding onto it as a fun curiosity.

wow those are terrible 'polishing' marks - did the mint hire somebody right off the street to do that?
