is this some sort of doubling on my 1973 D cent on the adverse in the word liberty in between the letters l and I or what is it

the obverse of a coin is the 'heads' side and the reverse side is the 'tails' side. So which side are you talking about here?

As it has been said by Dearborn, we collectors call the "heads" side of the coin "obverse" not adverse.
I do not see actual die doubling in the images provided, some minor MD?

is that another I ? next to the I in Liberty?. I would take 2 closer pictures of the I, its hard to tell from picture if its a stain or raised area.

Liberty looked like that on all the coins that year:
1973-D-Cent--On-The-Adverse-Is-This-Some-Sort-Of-Doubling
They had a stronger strike that year, thus the rims are taller.
