Hello to all, I am brand new to this community, and just started watching coin videos on YouTube after seeing a click-bait vid touting a "1.5 Million Dollar Dime." So, I hauled out my coin bucket and one of the first things I saw was a very strange looking 1979 D dime. It looks split, like the center of the coin has been removed, and two clad sides have been joined. There is no ridged side edge. The face of the coin also appears to have been struck slightly off center, as the "W" in "We" has been cut in half. Here are some pictures. I am really interested to hear what some knowledgeable people can tell me about this coin.

Naturally, I failed to post the pic of the face of the coin. I'll try again. I hope this helps! Thank you in advance for any information you can provide, I really appreciate it.

coin appears to have been in acid, or buried in acidic soil . it has eaten a portion of the core of the coin. the coin is just a damaged coin now. no value over 10 cents.

to the CCF Agree with acid damage. The acid eats away the softer copper core before it a attacks the nickel. There have been several like this posted on the forum. Just considered a damaged coin.

I really appreciate all of the responses. Exposure to a corrosive is something I would never have considered, but it makes perfect sense. Thank you all again!

Agree with all above. We see one of these every few months or so. Cool curiosities.

The rim tells us the story. Just a spender. (Probably will not work in a vending machine because of the lighter weight)
