Trying to help a friend with his coins. I'm not knowledgeable enough with Trade dollars to determine if it's real or not. Any help/advice greatly appreciated.

Hello and

This looks to me like a crude copy of the pattern Bailly's Trade dollar.

No doubt a fake.

Hopefully they didn't pay anything for it.

Metal value only.
Which in this case, would probably be about ten cents.

Thanks for your replies. Can anyone point out some the things that make it a fake? I want to be able to give that info to my friend when I deliver the bad news.

Compare how crude and misshapen everything is on your friend's coin.

The coin is a pattern coin. Patterns are typically well struck and have full details. On the obverse there are two denticles missing and the reverse denticles are poorly struck. At that point I quit looking because I know it is a fake. Look behind the eagle's tail feathers there are cast bumps and cast bumps in front of the arrows. The coin is a low quality Chinese fake. Look and compare the link that kbbpll posted and you can find numerous issues with the OP coin. I hope your friend do not pay too much for the coin.
