I have been coin roll hunting to varying degrees of intensity since about Spring 2020. During the pandemic it was much easier to find current coin rolls in uncirculated condition and even from prior years as business activity was greatly reduced. Furthermore as there was a campaign for people to turn in their loose change you had a slightly higher chance than average of getting a coin worth more than $5. Post-pandemic I see it is much harder to get rolls of mostly uncirculated new coins from banks and, to a slightly lesser extent, change from commercial transactions. Below is what I have found from the period Spring 2020 till now:
a) Only one to two of the following:
A 1929
Standing Liberty quarter with date showing but the grade at best would be Fine
A 1917D
Lincoln Cent left in the return drawer of a supermarket Coinstar like machine (which they have since removed). Condition though was Good
A 1950
Franklin half dollar in very worn/damaged condition from a half dollar $500 bank box (I have searched one only) and from a bank teller a VG Franklin 1963D Half Dollar
Two 1936 Lincoln Cents - but it is considered one of the more common dates of the 1930's and is reported to be found once in awhile but usually in VG or poorer condition.
A 2013S
ATB Quarter - circulation strike one (not proof). Very hard to find these. Condition was about XF
ONe 1962 Proof
Lincoln Centb) Found 3 - 10
W
ATB Quarters from 2019 and 2020 -- about 4 - 5
2009 Lincoln Cents - mainly the first three issues of the year with the fourth less.
1964
Kennedy halves War Nickels (3)
American Innovation Dollar coins (3 - VG to AU but nothing in the past year)
c) Found 10 or more
40%
Kennedy halves Current year's as well as those from the past 5 - 7 years cents. dimes. nickels and quarters in uncirculated or very high AU. Cents mainly. Note in 2022 I have not seen any of the new quarters since Sally Ride, this may be common that people hoard the initiation of a new series.
Pre-1965 Quarters (but so far about 3 - 4), tons of nickels from 1939 to present, dimes, quarters after 1964, cents after about 1942 (most in worn or G to XF condition)
Sac and
Presidential dollars - occasionally you find some nice high AU's or even an Unc more so the
Presidential dollar coins
This is an outline of what I have found and I just started coin roll hunting and again not to the intensity quite a few do. You TUbe has a few channels which provides episodes of coin roll hunting and it is worth checking --try and find those done by non-dealers to get a more realistic idea of what you may find.
