She has graced many a coin during her reign, too many to even think about. Even though I am from the US, I learned at an early age who the person on all of the British, Australian and especially Canadian coins was. A truly sad day and the end of an era for this strong, fantastic lady.

So sad to hear, I was in the car as the news was announced. It seemed so sudden, just two days ago she was up and smiling at Liz Truss, I thought at least 6 more months or a year. I am not a royalist by any sense of the word, but I had enormous respect for our Queen. She was devoted to her role and the people of the Commonwealth as well as being a wonderful representative of the former British empire and current Commonwealth. She also inspired much respect and admiration from outside the Commonwealth. She will sorely be missed by all of us. A radiant early coin of Her Majesty - 1961 Halfcrown, NZ The beautiful James Berry Portrait of her on a 1982 NZ Dollar Ka Haere Koa, Ka Haere Rangimarie o mana Wahine, Kuini Toa mo nga Tangata e te Ao!(Go happily, go peacefully o great lady, great Queen of the World's people!)

I apologize if it is too soon to discuss things, as I certainly mean no disrespect. Does The Royal Mint continue minting coins with QEII on them or do they stop? What is the process for transitioning to the new monarch on their coinage?

Lunch Money - I am sure everyone in the Forum will be thinking the same...
Based on what happened in previous years, I imagine that they will continue minting Elizabeth II coins dated 2022 for circulation as required until the coronation of King Charles III, which will probably be early next year. Traditionally coins with the portrait of a new monarch are not issued until after their coronation. As both George V and George VI died early in the year, many coins dated 1936 and 1952 were probably minted during the reigns of their successors.
I've already seen pictures of a 2023-dated Year of the Rabbit NCLT £5 coin with the portrait of the Queen. I imagine it will probably be withdrawn and melted down and a new version issued with Charles's portrait, as happened with the 2019-dated Brexit 50 pence coins. Unless of course some have already been distributed...

I am in London right now and there is a sense of great sadness about everywhere. What a wonderful woman. Rest in peace Queen Elizabeth II.

I saw her once in the early sixties, riding in an open limousine, waving to the throngs who had packed both sides of Tapleys Hill Road at Seaton....part of a fantastic cavalcade making the journey from Outer Harbour to Adelaide in South Australia. I was only a boy maybe 6 or 7 years old. Rest in peace, fine lady. 1984 1 Dollar

1953 Set. I talked to a friend in the UK this AM about her before the news came out - she will be missed. Epitome of class in a monarch.

New Zealand 1953 Proof set, similar to the UK, we also did a crown I don't have a proof set, but I do have the coins, this is the crown and halfcrown which doubled as a Royal Visit souvenir as Her Majesty first visited New Zealand between Dec 23 1953 and Jan 31st 1954 - then going to Australia. I was too young (Sub in utero - My granma was pregnant with my mother back then), but remember wanting to go see her in 1986 (My Mum said no as she was a Socialist Republican). That was the year the Maori radicals egged her. I got my chance in 1995 when she came to Dunedin, where I was studying and saw her on a walk through. I was actually with some of my anarchist friends who wanted to see the false elitocracy, but when we got there, we melted and became loyal subjects curtseying like everyone else when she came past and she said hello to me (It must have been my Dead Kennedys T shirt - I was 19, a Goth - sue me!)

A piece of history has been lost. What an amazing icon. She had a front row seat to many important moments in history and was a wonderful leader.
