I spotted this coin on the bay and it just doesn't look right to me. The PCGS examples all show a type 1 reverse for this date but this coin has a type 2 reverse. Aside from that the central devices just have a mushy look to me, especially miss liberty's head. What do the experts with these Trade dollars think?

most likely real, I am pretty sure the 1875 s Trade dollars did have a type 1 & 2 reverse. I think this seller highly docters their photos and doesn't sell very nice coins and would avoid them. note the 250+ revised feedback
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better?

Appears genuine. These are doctored photos and would recommend to avoid this seller.

Thank you for your candid replies. I did read some more about this date and while 90% of these are type 1 obverse and type 1 reverse, it appears that a small number were made with the type 2 reverse late in the production and those type 2 dies were not used extensively. The type 2 reverse is considered quite scarce or even rare. I'll keep searching for the right Trade dollar to add to my collection. I already got burned with a bogus one some years ago so I think I should probably stick to a slabbed coin anyway. Thank you for your input.

For Trade dollars, I agree.

In my case, for a price like that it HAS to be slabbed before I'd even consider it.
