I am sure there are a lot of things I have not heard of, and I know there are a lot of things I have forgotten, but rusty dies? Is that a thing?

Yes, coins struck with rusty dies are a real thing. It's not something that happens with modern dies, as far as I know. It's the older coins that seem to have had this problem. I know of Morgan dollars that use 'Rusty Dies' as an identifier for the VAM listing.

Let's see if anyone knows what the most famous of the die coins would be. I'm going to do some research.

I also like that the coin in the listing is in 'Proof Condition.' Being a 'Proof' is NOT a condition!

Rusty dies is a legitimate term. But that's not what's going on here.

Would be great to have (much) better images to evaluate--obverse and reverse--but we're dealing with a remote seller.

As others said, it's a real thing but NOT for very modern issues. I'm not aware of a single Lincoln that was produced on "rusty dies". When someone makes that claim it can usually be easily explained by other coining phenomena.

Once Benjamin Franklin invented the air conditioner, rusty dies became a thing of the past
