I'm positive this is a small date but should I submit this with the way the back looks? It's a gorgeous red I found in a coin bank wrapped roll. Guessing MS68 if it weren't for that black mark. It only weighs 2.51 grams.

That amount of black will likely get you a "details" grade. Not sure the value, but I thought the 1982 Small date in copper was the rare one to look for.
Also, please post full images of both sides of the coin.

Oops I posted this in the wrong forum. Bronze/copper is the better one to look for but this looked to be in amazing condition save for the black part.

Yes, it's an '82n D small date zinc core cent. As shared above, not worth submitting.

Very common worth one cent, no black spot maybe 50 cents.

It may be gorgeous compared to others you've found but that black spot does render it a "Details" grade. No grading service will assign it a numerical grade.

It is a small date. By photos I can not grade.

But it is not a copper example. That is the premium. Your coin will weigh 2.5 grams because it is a zinc cent, not a copper planchet coin.

Lol MS68 is almost impossible for a coin from this era. Almost none of them left the mint in MS68 condition, let alone one in circulation 40 years later.

This is a small date Denver minted Zinc cent suffering from plating bubbles and possible carbon spotting .

There are only 18 graded in MS68red condition by PCGS and looks like 19 by NGC as an example out of the over 6 billion they minted. So that means, generally, that although they DO exist and may be found, its quite unlikely typically to have one come back in that grade even when a coin presents even to someone who knows a bit about grading that its in the best looking condition. This just means great care must be taken to check values in different lower grades prior to submission as most values after grading may not even cover the cost of the grading itself and so dont really justify a good recommendation to send many of those moderns in to speculate where only top grades really have decent value over grading cost. The condition of the coin you showed would not get any of those higher grades due to the large black spot. This is what a MS68 graded coin looks like https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...te-rd/146036
