I have 2 1964 nickels with what looks like they were drilled but a lot of lime are straight or even almost even squared? I am a mechanic so I know what drill marks look lile. And no drill I've seen in military or civilian could do lines like these. I got one about 2 years ago. And recently got another in change in California. All the help you all can give me would be great.the one with bigger spots is a D and guess the darker one is a P but under microscope the P is like ummm sandpaper grit finish all over whole coin front and back.

Too irregularly shaped to be a drill, more likely repeatedly hit with some kind of blunt punch or something similar. Whatever did it, it is damage without a doubt.

Whatever caused it, it happened after the coin was struck. PMD

I agree not a drill, but also agree that it some other type of damage. Seeing how the rim at six o'clock has been distorted, a punch seems somewhat likely. Can you please also post a pic of the rev? If there are corresponding flat spots visible, then that would help to confirm this hypothesis.

to the CCF!

Nothing in the minting process could have caused this. The rim of the bottom coin has been pushed outside of the diameter of the retaining collar just under the portrait of Jefferson. This is a sure sign of damage.

At first thought I thought a ball peen hammer, but some marks don't match that pattern. What ever it was they were carefully placed with a tool of some sort.

Ni is relative soft metal so with good semisoft back could be hit without other side marks. IMHO your coin was hit by air hand gun with lead pellet's.
