Both are of the same variety, Sheldon S-9, R-2, and both exhibit problems as you can see in the pictures.

I have a clear favourite, but would like to know your opinions and which do you prefer.

Despite the unattractive pockmarks I guess I would pick the second one for the clear date and legends, etc. But I don't collect these.

Out of the two, I would take the second one hands down. Minor die flaws are visible, smooth copper surface, with decent eye appeal. The deep corrosion isn't too bothersome for me. The first example is just a blur of corrosion.

Between the two I'd take the second with the clear details, but would prefer Option C, which is a lesser graded example without obvious problems. I happen to be shopping for a wreath cent now and of course no two are alike, always a tradeoff somewhere.

I would choose #1. #1 looks weathered to me while #2 looks damaged.

I'd go with #1. I appreciate the lowballs and this is more wear (I know there is uniform corrosion) while the other is more "damaged".

I can't get over the pitting of #2. It would annoy me every time I looked at it and that I had $ tied up in it.

I probably wouldn't purchase either one, but if someone gave me a choice of the two, I'd pick the 1st one. The pitting on the second one is a huge distraction to me, even though the design elements are so much clearer.

Tough choice. My first instinct was the first one, but it's hard to beat the sharpness of the second. So I'd go with the second by a hair.
