Hey has anyone come across this 2008D Arizona type variety? It is in the same area of what is called the extra cactus. I have seen lots of extra cactus, but never seen this one. Something different I thought I would share. I understand not everyone likes these types of varieties. It almost looks like an extra leaf. Understand this I know this is not a big deal just something new I have come across, and wanted to share.

Looks a like a bit of DDD and the areas were chips form on that area of the die design. More of the times, the chips look more like a rock that covers over the initials.

But that is how chips off a die show up on coins. As a raised area where the void in on the dies. (Where part of the die chipped off)

Nowadays there is a tendency on places like ebay to make a big deal about inconsequential die chips - to the point of giving them a cutesy name so to make people notice them. Unscrupulous sellers put high prices on these inconsequential die chips and people are suckered into buying them. Later after the fad for the coin dies down (as tons more are found and put on ebay as well) people cannot get back the money they put into them.

Die chips are common and have been on coins forever. It's just that now everybody has a microscope more and more people are finding them. Not all ebayers are unscrupulous with these. Some legitimately think they have something special for sale b/c a few have sold (unfortunately) for big bucks on ebay.
