I harbor some suspicions as well. There's something "off" about the obverse design. Then again, the obverse shows a very early die state while the reverse shows a much later die state. Advanced die wear is often a sign of authenticity. Since the diameter is normal, it's not a broadstrike. The broad, flat, squared-off design rim suggests that this cent was struck on a blank. A photo of the edge might help, if the edge texture of the unstruck blank/planchet wasn't completely smoothed out by the strike.

I can see a valley going around the obverse rim of the coin. Some 1920 cents look similar to this one but not 22D. PMD

Cheap round trip to ANACS sounds like the next step.

Sirguardian, could be. At the first look I saw a small perfect round trace on the rim on the Observe between the T in trust and the digit 2, which coincide with the Reverse between M from UNUM and the end of the wheat. Those incuse traces push my trigger.

@Frog - I politely disagree. There are no error/variety authenticators at any TPG who can exceed our own Mike Diamond expertise in this arena.

And he himself suggested the next step ...

So - to the OP, can you provide the photo Mike requests?

I understand that the esteemed Mike Diamond has spoken, but I'm betting at some point this needs TPG input, that's all.

The coin is genuine. The weight, width, diameter and thickness is consistent with other 1922-D Lincolns of the period. An encapsulated coin would have rim damage and this example does not.

I am waiting for the experts to give me their feedback.

Hello all fellow collectors. Are we having fun yet? I haven't had so much with a coin for many years. Keep an open mind about this. I am very well educated in coin collecting for over 50 years but it is good to have the opinions of others that might help me to learn better. Let us see how this goes.
