Who even thinks to do these things? Still, I bet it's worth a bit now.
Added: I guess we will see if it sells for the asking price of $185K.

interesting piece here. I struggle to see how 2 cent dies were able to be placed so close together and then struck on this Ike..

Methinks that this was not entirely accidental.

This it is an man made. The Ike was not struck in the same time with the cents. What the TPG say for me is null or zero for others. IMHO this was done after strike. Some hint are there. I thing the Mint Investigation Dep. must go on the roll way.

Man made error that should result in some quiet time in the local federal jail. Still - pretty cool to look at.

How cool would it be for the '72 dies to be of the DDO persuasion.

Such a deliberate error is also known as 'mint sport'. I would think that legal issues would surround any coin such as this.

Quote: interesting piece here. I struggle to see how 2 cent dies were able to be placed so close together and then struck on this Ike.. The mint now has machines that strike four die pair at the same time. (720 coins per minute, 12 coins per second, 3 coins per die pair per second.) In 1972, it looks like the mint had the capability to strike at least two at the same time per machine.

(This is Mike Diamond's opinion from Facebook.) There was an entire collection of this type of stuff found abandoned in California. It was inspected by the federal government and deemed legal to own so it was auctioned off.

I've read about the 'Midnight minter' of the 1850's just making cool errors because he could. Looks like he had an admirer.

Mint assisted error. Some one playing around at the mint again. (It could have got them fired)
