Was in a small town antique shop today and they had a few coins. Small but nice selection and I nabbed this one. Kinda rare to find the partial clad coins, and this one lost the cladding before the strike, which I think is even more rare. Unsure what caused the damage on reverse, but it has grease in it so thinking maybe it got caught in something coming out of the mint rather than a coin roller machine.

That is a super pickup @tb. Perhaps the scratches on George's ear are related to those on the rev.

Well, if tropicalbats is stumped, the rest of us don't have a chance. Looks like a nice pickup, certainly missing some mass. Can't imagine what caused the scratching.

Great pick up, I really like the copper look on quarters and this is a nice one.

I would love to examine this one 'in-hand!'

I wonder if another small area of the clad layer may have still been attached just in front of Geroge's mouth when the coin was struck but later separated. That could explain the small strike through like 'dimple' in the copper. I also see areas on the rim that may have had thin strips of cladding that fell off after the strike.

I too am stumped by the odd area at the base of "Commonwealth." Maybe struck through a feather?

This is a great example of a fantastic error coin!

I have an error of "Imporper" Obv Cladding on a Roosevelt dime. It's nowhere as dramatic as this, but it's one of my favorite slabbed coins and misspelled labels. http://goccf.com/t/366857

Another tropicalbats coin I'm totally jealous over!

Thanks for all the great comments! Just don't see many of these and pretty happy to add it.

As for Blue Ridge putting more of my coins on his YouTube channel, that really, really bothers me. Previously he took photos from this discussion board and used them without my permission, and after noticing him he agree to stop. I do not know if it is okay to steal images off ebay to use for a for-profit youtube channel but I really wish he would stop using any of my coins to make money with his youtube stuff. He can post all the coins he actually owns and talk all he wants about them, but using other people's images without asking for permission just seems like a shady way to make money.
