The coin is flipped horizontally in regards to the 2 images. Any advice whether I should send it off for grading or thoughts on potential value of an error from this year would be great. I know it was a low mintage due to being shut down for part of the year. I've not been able to find anything relative to this year, mint & error type so far.

The first test I would do would be a comparative ping tone against another Morgan dollar.

I posted this into this " VAM" sub forum after I had posted into the error sub forum. I didn't even know " VAM" was a thing until I posted here. Sorry about that. Where should I post this?

I'm sorry, but I'm not following. Why would I want to do that? Would it not further damage it? I weighed it on a newly purchased scale with a weight of 17.36 grams.
I'll weigh again with a certified/calibrated scale asap

The official weight range of a Morgan dollar is between 26.633 - 26.827 gms.

Welcome to CCF. You can learn a lot about coins on this site. Check ebay sold listings for what 1881 CC are selling for. Those worn/damaged do not sell for high prices. If it were mine I would not send it in for grading, it's not in good shape. A ping test is when you listen to the sound a coin makes when it's gently hit on the edge, comparing the sound to other silver dollars. Fakes often make a different sound. There's youtube videos you can watch about this, either holding the coin with your finger tip and using a small wood stick or similar. There's also a ping tester you can buy, it's a plastic piece that holds the coin as you ping it. Doing it correctly should not damage a circulated coin. There are other methods to test a coin to see if it's genuine, such as weighing it, a slide magnetic test, watch youtube videos about this. There are lots of fake Morgan/Peace silver dollars. It's wise to buy from reputable sellers and learn how to identify fakes. Another place to find out about Morgan/Peace silver dollars is vamworld.com

Reason why comparative ping tone test is so popular is because no money needs to be invested in testing equipment

Hey guys, sorry for the late response. I just seen where I had a type error when I originally posted the weight. It was supposed to say "27.36" not "17.36" Also, as I mentioned it was weighed with a low end scale I had used from a local smoke shop nearby. After returning to home. I proceeded to weigh it with a higher end calibrated scale and it weighs 26.00 grams.

I apologize, but I'm not exactly sure what that image means. Also if its to indicate a comparison, would it you want to use a coin from the same mint? Again, I don't really know. Just genuinely curious & woukd love to know more about it.
