Not entirely sure how to label this one. It is struck on a thin planchet coming in at 2.47g and pretty uniformly thin. But it has this diagonal stripe of what appears to be bad alloy coming through it and on the reverse it is missing a lot of material along this strip. So close to a cracked planchet, but the obverse doesn't show a crack. Neat error coin and has pretty toning in hand.

I like the detail inside the canyon on your closeup.

Interesting how the discoloration follows the recess.

Great looking coin and error. I don't see a lot of strike weakness so the missing weight is mostly from the reverse trench? The south ridge of the trench has a pattern of some sort. Some kind of partial cut marks of the metal stock?

Nope, most of the weight loss is due to a thin planchet, not the trench. The coin is very thin overall, easily noticeable by eye with even a quick glance at the edge, and makes a high-pitched tinging sound when dropped lightly on the desktop. The pattern-like bit in the trench baffled me so I didn't mention it. At first I thought it was some kind of rotated columns but quickly realized that sounded ridiculous. Still no clue what's up with that but my best guess it is the metal's cross grain.
