1964 No Mint Mark Lincoln Penny 2.4 Grams

Jujucoins Valued Member United States 52 Posts	Posted 11/20/2022 3:32 pm This coin weights 2.4 grams it has not been filled down because the edges are smooth not file. Someone on here suggested it was filed down that doesn't even make sense and a waist of time. Anyway coin is the right thickness but is smaller around. Only if you do not know the history of WHY people used to file them down! Back when a dime bought something dishonest people would take the (little bit of) time it took to file down a penny to make it fit a vending machine's dime slot. coop Bedrock of the Community United States 62064 Posts	Posted 11/21/2022 1:32 pm Keep in mind that most of the early/mid 1960's coins had their devices moving to the rim direction because of a swollen master hub issue. (Finally fixed in 1969 with a new, New Master hub. Not the difference between the 68 & 69 cents: The swelling made the bust larger, the devices were moved towards the rim and enlarged. So when you see them side by side, then you can tell the differences. This happened again on the 1982 cents, creating a Large and Small date devices. That is how much the master hub had swollen in such a short time. CoopHome: What is a swollen master hub? The master hub was used to create the year dies in the past without the two last digits.
