Quote: I was not trying to rip the guy off with a $1,500 offer, that's 10% below melt. I understand. You can certainly offer any amount. Someone who accepts that offer would be sending a red flag that it might be counterfeit, stolen, etc. Some other people might have a genuine $20 Saint with no idea what it was worth and be thrilled with $1500 for it. Years ago a guy I knew owned a small, LCS and routinely offered well back of melt buying silver and gold. An elderly woman I knew took him about $200 in gold and walked out with $80 and was happy as a clam. True story.

Not sure where the morale dilemma comes from here. As long as the item for sale is what it's purported to be and the buyer doesn't attempt to mislead the seller, the sale is kosher. When's the last time a LCS paid premium prices for any coin, or sold the same coin for fair market value?

IF it's fake, a legal can of worms has been opened. Someone will lose.

I don't see the moral dilemma here. We all try and find a bargain.

I'm a bit taken back by some of the negative comments on here, and you know who you are. I've been called a "rip off artist", and accused of not having any morals, with none of you knowing the particulars or anything about me. I can't beleive the moderators would allow such. I do appreciate a couple of you stepping up & defending me, 52Raymo & wallyb. Have a nice day.

I can't say anything about the coin, but if he takes you up on the $1,500, it seems to me this might support some of the doubts about authenticity, if melt value for the real thing is $1,700.
I don't see your offer as a rip-off, though—people make lowball offers on coins all the time. Nobody says he has to take it.

I think it's the part where you start by questioning its authenticity and then flip it in under three hours that raises some concerns.

The OP posted here to see if he could confirm it was real. He didn't get a definitive answer, so he offers 10% below melt and gets the coin. Then he finds a buyer for the coin without even having the coin in hand. The fact that he gets it below melt and then sells it without knowing if it is genuine doesn't seem to be too concerning to a few people here. I for one would never sell something I didn't have in hand. I was in no way supporting you. My WOW was meant to say "I can't believe what you did" @4:45 PM I see the OP removed my name from his list of assenters.
