Quote: I think it's the part where you start by questioning its authenticity and then flip it in under three hours that raises some concerns.
I don't care, if you make a few$ or lost a few$. The big issue for me is, you may have just sold a counterfeit coin. Do you care?

Difficult to tell by just those images; lighting and focus can change the appearance of details. I didn't respond as I don't know the series and would want more information on it to even guess, as my comparison images do make me take pause. I don't know why the OP even bothered to ask the question as he seems to already have decided his path; basically asking how much can he charge to unload it for a profit regardless IMHO...

@burfle, thanks for the pics. The lettering doesn't match. The OP's coin has thinner lettering than yours.

This whole scenario smells. Why would someone sell this coin for $1500 when they could walk into any Bullion shop and walk out with $1700 plus or minus a few dollars. I would say the coin is diffidently counterfeit but even at that it will still weigh the same as a genuine coin. 33.43 gm . Many of these counterfeit gold coins were produced in order to avoid the U.S. ban on gold prior to 1974. https://www.ngccoin.in/resources/co...d-states/24/

The concensus is that the coin is a fake. Now that the OP is aware of this, it's not cool for him to pass it off to someone else. That's called fraud. Although it's not 100% conclusive, the forum members are pretty good at spotting these things. I don't know why the OP asked the question in the first place. '

@burfle, I edited one of my replies after the OP made an edit. An edit is counted the same as a reply.

"That's called fraud."
It's called 'fraud' only if there is intent. Based on the posts from OP I am in no way convinced there is any intent to do that. He made a purchase and opted to sell his acquisition - free market. There was no 'consensus' that the piece is counterfeit, in fact some thought it genuine and I'm willing to give the OP benefit of the doubt that he was swayed in that direction as well. As to what motivated the original seller to accept less than market value, none can say with any certainty. A lot of guessing and speculation going on here based on no concrete evidence. He who alleges must prove.

It's not fraud, it's just shady.

Quote: I'm a bit taken back by some of the negative comments on here, and you know who you are. I've been called a "rip off artist", and accused of not having any morals, with none of you knowing the particulars or anything about me. I can't beleive the moderators would allow such. I do appreciate a couple of you stepping up & defending me, 52Raymo & wallyb. Have a nice day. It would be nice if you would provide the sale and resale particulars and in hand photos. The lack of information contributed to speculation that most likely caused the negative comments.

Lots of speculation, slander, and lies here. I will be thinking twice about ever posting here again. Thanks wallyb & Jakes Coins, I'm going to leave it at this.

Perhaps there wouldn't have been as much speculation if you had been forthright about the transaction details from the start.

You brought this upon yourself by the way you conducted yourself throughout your posts. You came out looking like someone who wanted to make a quick buck on a coin that you don't have in your hand and don't know is genuine.

Quote: I still have not viewed in person or wieghed the coin, will do if I hear back. You could help out with all the "speculation, slander, and lies" if you would say whether you ever saw the coin in person or weighed it. All we can do out here is read between the lines.
