I have a 1986 S Jefferson nickel that I am pretty sure is uncirculated. It was inside a plastic silaphane, both side have great mirror finish, there no scratches, dings, Knicks. I am thinking this has a cameo finish but what would make it a deep cameo as frosting is very visible on both sides. Could it be graded as a 70?

Anything I should look for on this coin that would make it any better?

PR70-S DCAM $425
PR69-S DCAM $15
PR68-S DCAM $8
PR67-S DCAM $6
PR66-S DCAM $5
Anything you do to the coin reduces it to face value. Your choice?
Cost for slab $50+ Looks like it would not be some thing I'd do.

@look, it is a small issue of nomenclature, but your coin is a "proof" and not meant for circulation. Therefore, we wouldn't typically say that it is "uncirculated" even though it hasn't.

Given the photos posted, I'm thinking PR68. Is that a nick just above the Monticello dome?

nice, proof coins are tough to photograph, it has enough marks to mean it's not PF 70, still worth a few dollars in that condition

That makes perfect sense as to why they aren't called uncirculated. Duh lol but thank you for the explanation. And yes there is just a very small line right above the "Monticello" dome. Great eyes by the way. I was truly hoping I have finally found a perfect coin. Got a little overly excited lol. Slightly tricky taking pics with the mirrored finish shining back at ya that's for sure. Is this shot any better?

very nice proof - last image is not in great focus to tell if that is a scratch above the dome or not.

It is a proof but do not touch it with your hands for it will leave prints on it and devalue the coins worth.

I use a pair of soft white gloves when handling any of my coins no matter what condition they are in. I figured it is good practice just to go ahead and handle them all as if they are all MS-70 grade. Better safe than sorry. Does anyone have any advice on the type of cloth gloves or should they be latex, non latex? Micro-fiber, or cotton? The gloves I have now are a soft cotton mix of polyester fabric. Currently haven't seen any marks left after handling the coins. Although I have only touched coins in this condition on the sides as to not scar the obverse or reverse sides

Cheapo cotton gloves are perfect. I wouldn't handle proof coins much at all even with gloves. That little mark above the Monticello dome will knock down this coin's value. Put it in a plastic holder and leave it alone!
