Looks to be a heavily worn '63 D nickel, with a good dose of environmentally-caused discoloration.

Might have spent some time in the ground or a public fountain.

Well dang. I sure hate how you Google a coin and you start planning how to spend the $100,000 your gonna make off of it and then it turns out to just be dirty&

Could also be a "metal detector" find.. Googling and/or youtubing should be done only with extreme caution :)

Just looks like a typical 1963 D nickle to me..just one that is in desperate need of a bath lol & .. I've def been in your shoes with googling and even ebay being alot higher prices then really are. This site has been alot more helpful for me with things so far. Good info from alot of the members too.

You have a nickel that is one of 277 million made that year but possibly in worse shape than at least 276 million of them . Coin condition unfortunately plays a major part in the values, and its only the super high condition that have full steps that really carry a high value for this date, I believe 7,500 for a top example. These are likely not going to be found typically in change in those type of grades. In fact it appears only one was graded at that level out of 277 million minted out there over at PCGS so if you see videos or articles talking about high value, consider whether its the top grade only that had that value and how many were graded at that grade in total. https://www.PCGS.com/news/tips-from...-room-part-3 https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...-5c-fs/84074 @Kacinicole, the listed price of an item on ebay is not guaranteed it will ever sell for that listed price, so yes that can be very misleading if it never sells to think that item is worth that listed value. Instead at minimum you should checkmark sold listings on the left side to see what they are actually selling for.

This would be a circulated damaged and very environmentally toned nickel. Just a spender

Eventually the discoloration will wear off the coin. Starting with the highest devices, and then the lower areas. The coin will remain dull looking. But not a premium for these. I call them "Metal Detector" finds.
