Seems like this coin's had an interesting life. If you go to the PCGS Coinfacts page for this coin, you can see that it is pictured as the second and third highest graded coin for this variety - the Overton 103. See link here: ( https://www.PCGS.com/coinfacts/coin...stars/39299) It seems like this coin has lived in at least 3 different PCGS holders, almost certainly because some enterprising person wanted to upgrade this coin to mint state - thus far unsuccessfully. And PCGS Coinfacts shows this coin twice at the top of the population census. The coin is currently in a PCGS AU58 holder:   But it has lived in at least two other PCGS AU58 holders. On August 1, 2009, this coin sold at Heritage's Los Angeles, CA US Coin Auction for $12,650 in this holder:   The other PCGS holder/serial# that this coin has lived in that I could find is shown here:  It's possible that this coin has lived in other holders. If you have found other auction or other sale records for this coin let me know.

Congrats to @panzaldi, and thanks for the impromptu contest! Very nice buy, and so close to MS. I'm sure it was cracked out multiple times to try to get to an MS grade. The slabbed photos really show the luster well.

Thanks for the Win NS. you didnt have to do that. I had the coin at AU58 or MS63 and leaned toward the MS side. should have went with my gut. I went with 58 on the price though where I took the auction prices and averaged them out to be about $8k at that grade. I felt price wise the coin was better than that
