Acetone will remove organic materials which will be held in suspension. If after soaking and the coin is wiped off scratches will occur. I specified it needs to be done correctly.

We are all unaware of the skill levels of fellow members. CJ found this coin when coin roll hunting. It is a coin I would be happy to find. Why would you potentially ruin his find for preconceived notions?

@sut, you are all good here. Your heart seems to be in the right place, which is fine. The OP can leave the coin "as-is" or carefully soak in acetone.

I have never found that soak is the last step in a process!

After I soak a coin in acetone, I either lay it on a soft, clean cotton cloth, or very carefully pat dry it using said cloth. The beauty of acetone is that it evaporates very, very quickly. One can follow-up with quick rinse in distilled water, and pat dry. No rubbing/wiping. Into a 2x2 or album hole soon after. I've done this over many decades with no issues.

suttodh, you made my day! Don't know that I have seen anyone turn themselves in on a coin forum before. If I were on the jury though, I would have to say, not guilty.

Charlie, nice find - we all would love to find such a treasure! By the way, which coin microscope are you using? I ordered a Tomlow DM201 w/ 10 inch stand but they delivered a DM9 with 4 inch stand. FedEx just picked it up for return and refund. Now I'm hesitant to deal with them again.

Thank you Hondo! I purchased the Andonstar from an online retailer beginning with "A". I also purchased a 3 yr protection plan, as I used to sell them as a tech. They are worth it. I also ordered a 12 foot HDMI cord to hook to the 50 inch TV. I forgot to buy a converter from TV to mini micro. I'll probably just use my switcher box. It has closer lenses, but I could not fit the coin in the pictures. The remote allows black and whites as well. You must set your resolution low, as I had to use CCF editor to make the ones above in a lower kb. I made a short unboxing video of the contents via social media, however I am not allowed to share per CCF rules. The 7 inch was more than enough for me. I thought about the 10 but felt it was overkill.. Here's a screenshot of my micro. I have no complaints on this item, yet still exploring. Good luck with finding yours.

Nice find and really good images. Well done. Quote: It is now a cleaned coin! Technically yes, but it had environmental issues before the acetone treatment. (Staining around the date.) IMHO, it is a better-looking details coin. And after all, it is hers to do with as she sees fit.

I say the acetone bath improved it.
