@acl, I think that you must mean this in the context of numismatic sales.

I read this story today. I've spent 2022 making photo receipts of every coin I purchased for resale, tracking all my sales, ebay fees and my monthly ebay store costs, so I could accurately document my total expenses and profits for my 2022 taxes.

Never mind.

I'm a small-time seller. Earlier this week, with this new reporting law in mind and before reading this article, I decided to take a break from selling on ebay. I pulled my listings and closed my ebay store. I didn't feel it was worth the hassle and paperwork for the small profits I make.

I had a good chuckle after reading the story.

Everyone that does not report their net income and pay tax on it just causes everyone (themselves included) to pay more overall in income taxes.
When this does go into effect, there will be a lot more people properly paying taxes on income they have previously "ignored".

Did our taxes with our accountant yesterday, and I mentioned that ebay couldn't pull off the 1099 thing this year. She kinda huffed and said they'll never pull it off. I'm not so sure. I do realize it's the govt actually pulling the strings and not ebay.
