By far my fav coin I have found myself. Had it for some time now, found it in a roll of circulated nickels. Felt pretty lucky to find it, been trying to find a nicer condition one ever since and no luck so far. As of lately I feel like I underestimated just how lucky I was to find it. Only ones I've seen in au or better condition are already graded and most likely not gonna be for sale any time soon.

That is a nice one @mrj. Normally, we tell folks that since the mintmarks were applied to the dies by hand, that unless a mintmark is touching some other design element, there is no numismatic premium. Is this one different from that general rule?

This one has become a bit of a oddity that had gained collectable value in the last 5-10 years. Generally mm placement is kept within a certain variance, this being an exception as they were deemed to be beyond that variance. I haven't come across many that are known to exist, I've seen maybe 30 at most so far. Ofc that doesn't mean there isn't more I just haven't seen them. 2 recently were sold on ebay in roughly same condition as mine and they sold for I think $280 and $230. The $230 being slightly worse off than mine Only other coin I have with a higher degree of variance on mm is a 1954 s wheat and the mm on right up on the 5, touching it so hard it feels uncomfortable lol.

The 75 D nickel is also briefly mentioned in The Red Book, at the start of the Jefferson nickels section. As far as value it only says it carries a premium value. That's where I first saw it and it set me off on the hunt to find one. After that I started researching them more as I tried to find a AU or better copy, sadly this is the best condition I've had a chance to get or find.

Well now, I'll have to get back into my '75 D nickels and give them another look. Cool.
The mint mark was likely placed on a Monday following a Denver Broncos loss.

Ok thx for helping me learn something today @mrj. If it is mentioned in the Red Book, then that certainly adds to the collectibility.
