Went through some of my grand dads coins and spotted this. I don't know much about coins. Havent seen anything like it for this year. Any help would be appreciated.

 To Community, Whatever the cause may be, this is a severely damaged coin perhaps a parking lot coin and nothing more!! too bad but it's been around a long time and has done it's service.

once a coin is damaged that much it's difficult to say exactly what happened, especially if subsequent cirtculation has smoothed the evidence
