Was going through more wheat cents the last few days and found this--see photos below. First noticed the 'drop off' of the right wheat stalk. Flipped the coin over and the obverse (immediately opposite) also shows signs of 'drop off'. I'm sure there's a more elegant term, but I'm lazy this morning. The third pic shows a rim shot, which confirms the thinning of the struck coin. For comparison purposes, the coin in question is sandwiched between two standard wheat cents. We've all heard of pinching pennies, well......
The photos were taken at slight angles, so the images appear to be skewed from the vertical. Used my phone, not my better set-up. Again, lazy.
Looks like a tapered planchet to me - not enough metal to fill in back to the collar and the proto rim from the upsetting mill is still present on this coin.
