Very nice pictures you posted. Thanks for that. What we see on this coin is DDD or die deuteriation doubling.

and also. BTW, a bit more help to save you time: If you want to catch a rainbow trout, you need to know what a rainbow trout is. If you want to find an error coin, you have to know what an actual mint error is. Most odd looking things on coins are just post mint damage ( PMD) Save Yourself time, effort, and disappointment...don't learn the coin hobby backwards. Looking for random anomalies on coins and hoping they match up to something collectable will take you a lot more time, wasted effort, and disappointment repeatedly finding out you have nothing but post mint damage or useless Machine Doubling, Die Deterioration, etc. Spend some initial time at places like error-ref.com, doubleddie.com, varietyvista.com, conecaonline.org, coppercoins.com etc. to find what actual and collectable coin errors look like. A good way to start is, for instance, separate a bunch of pennies by date. Go to varietyvista.com and, date by date, use the reference there to see what errors are known for that specific coin/mint mark. Look for those specific errors/varieties using the pictures provided. After doing this for awhile you will KNOW what an actual error looks like and not have to waste time on face value and damaged coins.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate it. I'm not a total newbie, just new to this forum. This one wasn't clear to me, since the 'flows' didn't look like they usually do. So I really appreciate the clarification from more expert eyes. It looks like some of you started collecting corns before I was even born. And I do know what I'm looking for, in general, if I were only looking for coins to sell. I have a list of the most common error and variety coins to look for. But I do enjoy looking at other coins to, just to see things. It's a hobby and I enjoy it. And I learn things by looking at coins that aren't on the typical lists. This one just took me by surprise, and I thought it would be a good one to expand my understanding. Many thanks.

Coins. I meant coins. Not corns. One last question--is the DDD also the reason that the LIB look smaller than the ERTY, and why they look like they're sitting kind of to the left, as though they're a bit separate from the ERTY? Again, I know what mint errors and varieties I'm supposed to be looking for. I've watched lots of YT videos and now I'm just enjoying looking at lots of different coins to see what all the 'other' things that can go wrong look like. I know this isn't on the usual lists. I just really do love to understand all the 'whys' and I like to look at different coins, and this one has intrigued me. Thanks.

@ GardenGirl, good observation from the point of view for Liberty. Mean you are able to see small differences on design variations. The variety 1987 till 1989 was like this. All the coins are as your. I think Variety Vista must have the ODV's and RDV's for penny and cents.

Not roasting you, Gardengirl, and I know it was a mistake bc it happens to us all, but I did like the corns thing, lol.
